Boot Camp!

A friend of mine has been posting on facebook about this boot camp she is going to. So I decided to make my hubby go with me, since when ever I am a chicken he is my support.  I even had him go in and quit a job for me once. The ladies in the salon where so rude I wasn't about to go back in.  Anyway I have the best husband!  So we go to the college football stadium, there are all these people who are in shape and me?  First we head around the track, then up and down the bleachers!  I was dizzy and tried, but I kept going!  Then one minute of one exercise and 10 seconds rest, repeated three times. Then around the track again!  If I thought there was a place I would have thrown up!!!!!  I can already feel a change in my body, I am going to give this a good 90 days!

Trying aTriathlon?

A race is always the best way to get my butt going.  I have always wanted to try a tri, and now I am going to get a great start.  I had my FUN friend call and ask me if I wanted to fill in for her biker for the Rage Triathlon.  My first thought was what if I get a flat tire?????  Well I am going to do it!  I have one week to make sure I am ready.  So I just have to ride 12.4 miles, I have done that a few times and I should be able to do it.  But the best part is I am excited to start working on doing a full triathlon.  I have the best example to motivate me.  When I signed up, I asked Josh (my Hubby) to do it with me.  He jumped in the pool and started training.  So now we need to find another one to sign up for.  SUPER excited!

The next thing that I am trying tonight is a boot camp.  Another friend has been going to a free boot camp at Dixie college, since I guess I need my friends to motivate me I am going to go get my BUTT KiCKED, I am so excited.....maybe I will throw up?  No more Junk food....time to get serious!!!!!! Hope I survive:0/

August 22nd

Day one went pretty good..

Went for a 2 mile walk jog?  Kalee road her bike, why is it that your kids love to ride Their bikes, until you want them to then they cry the whole time and say  when can we go back????  But we made it and I was able to jog. I just have to remind myself I am starting at square one, and it will get better.

Eating could have been better, but it could have been worse.   Sugar is not my friend, but I love it so much.  Starting tomorrow I am going to blog everything I eat, and all of my exercise.

The kids are all back to school so I really need to get organized with my time so I can do better. I am starting a new business, and am really enjoying it..now if I can just get control of my health life will be good. Let you know how I am doing...oh yeah I was cleaning my bathroom and threw my scale away, thought it was my old one??? So for now i am just going to work on my clothes getting big, then I will by a scale and see how I am doing.

Until tomorrow.....

A New Life......

Hello Blogging world, it's been a long time.  It's hard to concentrate when your world is turned upside down.  So I have been trying to figure out what my problem is with my stomach, so I have started not eating any gluten.  And it has been helping,  I think maybe I have celiace disease that would explain all the stomach pain, and everything else I have been dealing with for the the last 5 yrs.  So I have been eating gluten free for two weeks, lost eight lbs (yeah), but I am starving....  What do people eat when they need a snack, besides fruit lol.  I am really going through some changes life really is revolved around food.  every thing we do I reward myself with a snack (sugar).  This morning I broke down and went to McDonald's and got a Coke and Egg Mcmuffin... came home and puked it up.  I guess I just had to test myself and remind myself that I really can't eat that kind of food anymore. So it is a blessing and a curse, but I will have to figure out a new way of life and hopefully feel better a long the way.  I will be looking for and posting recipe's I am going to try Wish me luck....

Happy Birthday Mom

Well I know my blog is suppose to be a weight loss blog, but given passed events I am finding all I really want to talk about is my mom.  Today is her 60th birthday we all joke and say she just didn't want to turn 60, but she was never one to care about her age, those of you that knew her know she was a lot younger than her age (not that 60 is old).  So in honor of her birthday I thought I would just share some of my memories of her.  When I was a little girl I remember her going to finish her college degree at SUU, she would take me with her, but I think it was because I was so knotty.  She tried to take me to her friends and I would run away to try to find her.  My Aunt tells me about her leaving me at her house and I would chase her down the road crying.  So that explains why I have the memories of her taking me to school with her.  She worked so hard at getting that degree I'm sure I would have just quit and said I couldn't do it because I had a little brat at home to take care of.  She finished school and then took me with her to tropic to do her student teaching, and she had to put me in her class?   Then I remember her teaching me in Second grade, we had lots of fun.  I was just talking to a friend and he was telling me how much he appreciated her, his family was having all kind of trouble at home and he was a troublemaker in class, and she still loved him and didn't treat him like he was a bad kid.

When I was in middle school I was still a little stinker, but I don't ever remember her yelling at me.  When I wanted to do horse back riding, she talked to her dad and he got me a horse.  My dad told us we would have to feed it and take care of it.  That was one of the fun things we would do, we couldn't really lift the hay so we would count to three and then lift, but we were usually laughing so hard we still couldn't lift it.  One day we didn't get the hay on very good and when we got to the main street the hay feel out of the truck, so we had to try to lift it in.  I always remember laughing so hard.

In high school of coarse we had fun.  All the boys in town thought my mom was so cool, so they would come over and hang out and we would watch movies all day.  She all ways made cinnamon rolls, and let us hang out as long as we wanted, now I know she just wanted to keep us home, and keep her eye on us.

Raising five girls couldn't be easy.  Everyone always felt bad for my dad, but in our eyes my dad was the king of the world. But my poor mom had to try to get along with us.  She always went walking with us, we could talk and talk, sometimes we didn't even leave to go for our walks until 9 or 10 at night, rain, snow or shine.  I know I am to tired now to do that, but she always had time for us.

Then she was the grandma and mother-in-law.  Always there, to every birthday party, every ball game( or butterfly chasing in Jason's case).  She always wanted me to encourage my kids and husband, never let them know they weren't doing something perfect.  She always build us up.

A while back she had come to St.George shopping, we were setting in the car talking, and we saw these two ladies, they looked like a mother and daughter, but they were much older than us. We watched them and laughed and said that's going to be us in 20 years.  I wish it was....

I LOVE YOU MOM, HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Believe

"Believe that your conversations with your children my not be written in their journals, but they will be written in their hearts."  Hilary Weeks
This quote has taken on a totally different meaning to me.  Cherish your loved ones, cherish you time together, look for the good in everyone.  Service brings happiness!!!  You never know what life will bring we spend a lot of time worrying about things that don't matter.  We should be healthy, and take care of ourselves.  But it matters not if you are a size 4 or 14 if you are happy, and enjoying life.  I personally need to step back and eat better, but not be so consumed by every little pound.  Since my mom's passing I have found comfort in COKE.  And since then I have had a lot of stomach problems again.  If something makes us feel bad stop doing it?  My mom has always been a big fan of weight watchers so in her honor I have started weight watcher and really enjoying it.  I think I also enjoy it because  I am not so focused on the pounds but just trying to eat better.

This is my mom and dad's Christmas card from last year (2010).

Christmas is that time of year that makes us reflect back at those special occasions throughout the past year. "Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away,"  Driving to Bryce Canyon each day and taking time to take in the beauty of the red rock and shadows is what makes the 26 miles enjoyable.  The rock formations on I-70 make the 300 miles drive to Grand Junction more than just a trip to see the grand kids, and even the lights of Vegas as we drive to Ft. Irwin are beautiful.  That short walk to the taxidermy shop and taking time to notice the sunrise or sunset makes life more meaningful.  How many times do we see a particular vista that catches our eye and we don't take time to enjoy it or even take a picture?  This past year we have been trying to enjoy our surroundings more.  Take time to enjoy your families, you never know how long you will have them around.  Like a sunset you keep watching waiting for the best time to take your picture and before you know it; it is gone and no picture was taken.  God has given us many beautiful things to enjoy in our lives and we should take time to enjoy them.  The soccer and baseball games, the dance recitals, the swim meets, violin solos, the water skiing trips, karate demonstrations the Primary programs, the grandparents weekend (no parents allowed), the fishing trips, and the whole family sitting together in church; these are the things we remember and cherish.  You may only have one day in your life when the sun rises through the fog down the River Lane...don't sleep in and miss it.

I Miss You MOM

Where do I start, my last blog was Dec. 1st.  That night became the beginning of the worst thing I have ever had to go though.  About 6:00 that night I started calling my husband who is living with my parents while he is doing a construction job in my home town.  He didn't answer, I was starting to get a bad feeling. Then at about 7ish he called, and said it was my mom.  She had knee surgery the day before and seemed to be doing OK.  I had just talked to her about 2:00 that day we talked for about an hour.  Anyway she wasn't feeling very good so my dad went home to check on her, when he tried to help her to the couch she collapsed.  He called 911, they live right next to the hospital but she was to limp and he couldn't pick her up, so he just had to wait.  The Ambulance got there and my husband pulled in right after they did.  They got her to the hospital, but once there she went into cardiac arrest.  They revived her, and figured she had a blood clot in her lung.  They flew her down here, my dad drove.  I got over to the ER and he was already there along with my dad's sister and brother in law, and my mom's little sister (who lives in Montana, but just happened to be in town).  We waited for two hours until they finally got her here.  We all just thought they would bring her down and do surgery and take care of the clot.  But when we finally talked to the Dr. she said it was very serious, and it didn't look good.  She looked really bad, we couldn't even talk we I just sat there and watched her.  I just couldn't believe this was happening to me!!!!!

My dad sent me home at 2 in the morning.  When I got home I just kept thinking if it was her time to go my dad wouldn't have gotten her to the hospital, or they wouldn't have brought her back at the hospital.  I woke up at 5 a.m. and started texting my sisters, my youngest sister that lives in Ohio, already had her flight.  My sister in Germany wasn't sure what to do, it was 2500$ per person to fly on Sat, or 800$ to fly on Sunday.  But her and her whole family was coming.  After I wasn't getting any response from my sister in Grand Junction I called her.  She had no idea it was that bad and the same for my sister in Salam.  Their in-laws quickly volunteered to watch their husbands brought them down.  Josh left to come home at 5:00 that morning (he stayed with my mom at the hospital until the life flight came).  I got all my kids ready and off to school or at families house and headed over.  I was very scared about what I might find. She looked a lot better, it was also comforting to walk into her room and see a friend for our church working as a nurse.

Everyone was on their way, but I just wanted her to wake up so I could talk to her. We all just kept pleading with her to please wake up.  The Dr. had talked to my dad and told him they need to do an EEG on her brain before they can even think about doing anything else, I was with her while they got her ready for that, and they took her off the medication to get a good reading so I could see her eyes and there was just nothing there?  I think I kind of knew then what the results were going to be.  At 6:00 the Dr. came in and took us all out in the hall to show us the scan.  She said her brain had been without enough oxygen for 20 minutes and there were a lot of parts of her brain that were dead.  It was the worst thing I could have heard!!!  How could this be happening!!!  We cried,  I don't remember much about the night.  I just remember wanting to sit and look at her, and remember everything about her.

My youngest sister got there that night, she did surprisingly better then we thought she would.  I remember not wanting to go home because I didn't want to tell my kids.  I really wanted to wait to tell my oldest son since it was his 14th birthday.  We waited to tell them the next day, it was very hard but they have such strong faith.  They cried, my oldest daughter (9yrs old) asked why grandpa wasn't staying at our house and  I told her he doesn't want to be that far from the hospital and she said "He  is strict, but he sure is a romantic old man (he is 60).  Children are the light in the tunnel.  My mom loves kids she taught school for 28 years, and after she retired she got a job as the education specialist at Bryce Canyon National Park.  She taught over 5000 kids last year alone.  This was a heart break for hundreds of kids.

My cousin teaches school in my home town, and in her class that Friday morning she had one of her students come up ( without knowing what was going on) and say she was making a Christmas cards for her favorite teachers and she was starting with Mrs. Bulkley.  My cousin just broke down and cried and had to tell her kids what was happening.  They all wrote and note to her, you can not believe what they wrote.

Christy went and tried to sleep in the waiting room.  It was a wonderful night I just laid my head on her lap and watched Mormon messages on my phone, until 4. then the nurses wanted to give her a bath so we went in the waiting and told christy we were going home to sleep some more.  We had just got into bed and we got a call from Suzanne saying come back.  We ran out the door, my heart was pounding I couldn't breath and Josh just couldn't move fast enough I was totally panicked.  When we got into the room they said she has quit breathing for the respirator.  So we decided to take the breathing tube out, as soon as everyone got there.  It was terrible!!!!!!  At first I just couldn't take it so Christy and I walked out, then after a while we went back in.  It was peaceful, the spirit was so strong, it was hard, it was a blessing that we were all right there holding her hand.  I just never realized I have such a special person as my mom.  I could feel the love of my Heavenly Father, and know that he was hurting that we were hurting.  What a blessing!!!!!!!!

HCG

I have had some requests to talk about different diets, so I thought I would start with the HCG diet.  It is a diet using a pregnancy hormone to help trick your body into burning fat.  I did this diet about two years ago, I went to the Dr, and she gave me the hormone drops.  IT WAS HARD, you can only eat 500 calories a day. You had to eat 3oz of meat (chicken or lean steak..) twice a day, and 3 oz of certain veggies, and you could have 1 apple, an orange, 1/2 grapefruit or a hand full of strawberries.  If you didn't stick to it you would GAIN weight.  It was  the hardest diets I have ever done!!!  But  I lost 20 lbs in  three weeks!!!!  I kept it off for about 1 year, then I got sick, and would cough and cough, so I couldn't exercise, and in one month I gained every pound back and a little.  I tried to do it again, but I just can't find to will power.   I have since lost a little and then gained a little YO-YO!!!!  Would I recommend  the HCG diet, well lets put it this way, it's not something you can do for a long period of time.  I think it is best to find a healthy change you can live with, for the rest of your life!!!  I am sticking to a 1500 calorie diet and trying to exercise 6 days a week...  The weight loss is slow.... but I am feeling better.  I have had a lot of people say they see a difference in me, so that's good.  The other day I was at kalee's school, and one kid said to another kid "she looks like your mom", and the kid said "No, my mom is much fatter".LOL, Glad I am not his mom!!!!

One more thing about HCG, it really makes it hard to diet "normally".  It has taken me a year to not get down on myself when I only lose one pound in a week, it is a constant battle.

Here is some advice I got while chatting online last night on Blog to lose...
*Keep a journal of your food!! (check)
                  * Drink lots of water!!! (not check)  I am doing better today...
      Thanks for the advice ladies<3

Quote of the Day!!

Feeling like Crap so I didn't get any exercise in, maybe that's why I feel like CRAP!!!
So here is a quote to help with tomorrow:)

"It will hurt. It will take time. It will require dedication.
It will require willpower.  You will need to make healthy decisions.
It requires sacrifice.  There will be temptation.

Feeling Cute?

Lost only 5lbs, but it feels good.  I even feel a little cute!!!

Keep Working

"To reach a port, we must sail- Sail, not tie at anchor - Sail, Sail not drift."
                                               Franklin Roosevelt

So I went to Flex class this morning, I love it.  Flex is a class were we use free weights, and bars, and yoga balls (strength training).  No bouncing up and down!!!!  There are all ages of  women, it is great to see some of these older ladies there, (a lot of them are in better shape then me).  Today was a little hard because I didn't get there early enough to get on the back row.  So I could see myself....  I like to look at the teacher and think that's where I am going, not see myself and think look at were I am now!!!!  I think that is one of the hardest things about going to the gym, looking at yourself and all the skinny women, and remember you have to start somewhere.  We all have different body types and shapes, some have skinny legs with bigger bellies, I have chubby legs and a smaller belly?  One bit of advice I have is to invest in some cute workout clothes, don't just go to the gym looking your worst.  We all can use a little encouragement!!!  That is why I love to go to spin class, the lights are off and I can feel my muscles working, I know there is a fit women in there somewhere.  Another thing I like to do when it gets really hard, I imagine little pac man eating all the fat away;)  Well I am off to buy a new scale, mine is a dial, and I need to numbers to show me every little bit I lose.

Thanksgiving!!!!

So how was everyone's Thanksgiving day?  We had a lot of fun, My husband and I, and 3 of our kids got up and ran in a turkey trot 5k, in American Fork.  It was fun, there were about 1000 people, all ages.  What a great way to start Thanksgiving!!!  Then we had a wonderful dinner, I couldn't help to think about every single thing I put in my mouth....  I came home thinking I had gained 5 to 10lbs... but no I didn't YEAH.  I didn't lose any but I didn't gain.  So I got up on Monday with a new ambition Stay with in my calories, and exercise (two a days this week).  So I did the eliptical for 45 mins, then went to spin class (and got my butt kicked) for 60 mins.  Feeling really good!!!!  Exercise is the key for me, I feel better even if I am not losing a ton of weight yet.  Blogging is also helping. I do feel responsible and everyone is watching so I can't fail, it is not an option!!!!!!!
Looking a little tired, but we had a Great TIME!!!

Never wear Gray jogging pants!!!!

OK, if you know me or my sisters (or Mare) you know about the cruse of the bladder!!!!  Well after a terrible weekend of not sticking to the eating plan, I decided to hit two classes today, and since I like getting it over with early I decided to go to spin tonight, and try this new class I haven't ever tried (power X).  I dropped Kalee off at the day care and head up to the class.  Wearing my dark gray jogging pants and a running shirt I got at the Midnight 5k and a purple running jacket.  I get up to the class and there is a couple people there, so I ask about the class.  And the teacher walks up, and says it's really hard (but I can just do my best), that's a great way to start a class.  So we get all of our stuff out, and I am starting to notice there are a bunch of young cute girls, that haven't had babies yet???  So we start out marching (OK I can do this) then we start doing JUMPING JACK'S, maybe I am the only one but Having 4 babies+jumping up and down+spreading your legs apart = PEE your pants!!!!!!  So I thought it was just a little leak,oh no, then we start jogging in place.  How am I going to get out of here with out everyone noticing me.  So I tied my jacket around my waist, it covered it up pretty good until we had to spread our legs apart for squats, oh please beam me up Scotty!!!!!  Well I finally thought either I don't care that all these cute young girls know I totally peed my pants, or they think I can't handle the class.  I  choose not handling the class I am out of here.  At least I got a good 30 min, work out, but I am for sure sticking to the Flex class and spin no Jumping up and down!!!  Oh well put this one down in the book of  Bulkley girls peeing their pants!!!!

Holy crap what did I get myself into!!!!

OK so my son Jason needs to finish his physical fitness part of his Duty to God.  So he has been running with the running club at school, so we decided to have him run a 5k.  No problem, so I find a 5k in American Fork on Thanksgiving Day, and we decide we are all going to run in it.  That is no big deal, 5k is easy, plus we can burn some calories before we dig into the Turkey.  So I signed the whole family up, I was so excited.  I have been going to spin class about three days a week, cardo is no problem.... I just forgot one thing.  This summer we went to Lake Powell for a fun day of water skiing.  My oldest son was trying to learn how to ski, and just couldn't get up.  I am a "pro" so I decide I will show him how...beautiful day...water is warm.  So I get ready and the boat starts pulling me, but I just can't stand up...What the heck!!!!  Finally after 3 times I am totally determined, I am going to stand up if it kills me!!!!  Well the boat pulls me one way, one leg goes one way, the other goes another way, but dang it I am not going to let go!!!! When I heard this terrible POP my leg went numb.... I was out for the rest of the day!!!  I pulled my hamstring and who knows what else, my leg was huge, and bruised from my hip to my calf, and it hurt for a long time, weeks.  They said after eight weeks it should be better.  Well it is five months later and I still can't jog.  Every time I do I get a charlie horse in my hamstring.  I guess I had a brain fart and just forgot I can't jog.  Well I guess I am going to have to walk or walk/jog.  I really want that sweatshirt!!!!  Anyway if you are in American Fork on Thanksgiving Day, and want to run a 5k come join us at the Fleet Feet Turkey Trot.  Hopefully I can make it to the end!!!!!

THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT

I want to thank all my friends and family for all the support.  This has so far been an awesome way to start achieving my goals.  There are so many ways we can lose weight and different things work for different people, as I am finding out. I have had so many personal messages of everyones own challenges, with losing weight.  It is for sure an on going battle.

Let me share with you a little bit about myself.  I grew up in a house with five girls, mom and a dad.  We had lots of fun, my dad would even get silly once and a while ( if you know my dad that might come as a little shock).  My mom is a beauitful women, always dressed up to date, with a cute haircut.  We all would share clothes, fight over boysfriends (Suzanne;)).  I all ways thought I was fat, I even layed on my drivers license because I didn't want to say I weighed 120 (so I said 117, I am so bad). My senior year was the worst.  I had sent my boyfriend on a mission, I didn't tryout for cheerleader, and the only sport I did was track (I threw the javelin;)).  And so it began with the weight.  I gained thirty pounds, that year didn't date much, and just wanted to get out of town.  As soon as I graduated I moved to St. George and started cosemtolgy school.  It was great, still chubby I felt a little out of place with all this super cute St. George girls.  Anyway I got feeling sick ,and I have endometriosis so they decided to do a laporoscopy.  I got home and started feeling really sick, so they took me back to the hospital (in the ambulance). After a couple of days they found out I had really bad infection.  I don't remember much for eight days, but when I went to get dressed my clothes almost fell off.  I had lost 20lbs.  Not the best way to lose weight, but it worked I guess. Then the missionary came home things didn't work out so I started gaining it back again.  And so the roller coster began, everytime I would start getting happy it would fall right off.  Everytime anything went wrong I would start packing it back on.  I was Super Cute & Skinny at my wedding, they had to keep taking in the dress.  The problem I am facing now is little things makes me stress, so then I just gotta have that coke.  I started today really good, then I got a phone call from the school my son forgot his homework (mr. 4.0), "please bring it to me".  So I loaded up all three of the  kids (I babysit 2 darling kids, who I  would love to keep).  Then we get to the school and I unload all three of the kids, we are walking throught the parking lot, kids are losing shoes right and left, if I can just make it to the door.  Finally we give him his notebook, then I realize we have to make it back to the car.  I am really sweating it.  We make it to the car,  then buckle everyone in.....I really could use a coke.  This is my life, my husband is working out of town, so I am home with just the kids all week.  We are greatful for the job, and I am greatful for my childern, I just wish when things got bad "all I really wanted was a banana"

Share your stories with me, give me pointers, cheer me on I love it.  Maybe we can help each other want a "BANANA".  You can email me or comment, I know there is a lot advice out there. Recipes, favorite excerises....... Sherrie.h@hotmail.com

The Plan!!!!

It is so hard to figure out what plan to follow.  It's like a different diet jumps out everyday!!!  I am the queen of infomercials. We had some friends helping us move one day and they were dying when they saw all of my diets I had ordered.  Some worked for a while, everything is just the quick fix.  I have done everything from cabbage soup diet to HCG.  I am ready to do it right, and in a way I can continue to follow the program forever.

I am using My Net Diary app, on my phone.  It helps me keep track of how many calories I am eating, how much sodium is in the food,  how many calories I should eat, and how many calories I burn while exercising. I am loving it.  We have so many conveniences right at our finger tips, it should be so easy but mentally it is still so hard.

I am going to exercise everyday, at least 1 hr.  It is going to be MY 1 Hour everyday.  And so far I am loving it.  I went to spin class last night, I looked around and realized I am the chubbiest one in the room, not fun!!!!  The first 15 minutes my mind kept telling reasons I should leave, but I didn't.  At the end of class I was feeling awesome.  Loving SPIN CLASS!!!!

So the good news for the night I LOST 3 LBS,   177.
Long way to go, but at least I am heading in the right direction.

Progress has little to do with speed, but much to do with direction

Ogden Half Marathon

So here I am running my 5th half marathon.  As you can see I was feeling pretty good, I'm wearing my cute new running pants.  When I bought them I couldn't wait to try them on for my husband. I ran the race and felt pretty good. I couldn't wait to see the pictures.  Needless to say I have never wore these pants again.  What a sweet husband I have to cheer me on despite my appearance,  he tells me I look great I love him so much.

So anyway I ran the race in 2 hrs 45 mins ish..... The thing I was the most proud of was the fact that I ran the first 10 miles with out stopping.  Yeah....

The Ogden Half Marathon is one of my favorite races.
